Providing on-site consumer assistance, information, and resource strategies to strengthen access to services and support. It is designed to provide computerized information, printed directories and brochures, and books and video demonstrations on medical and lifestyle topics (parenting, care giving assistance, health care, living with cancer, etc.). Trained on-site volunteers provide one-on-one assistance.
These seminars provide training on a variety of behaviors, which promote a healthy lifestyle; included are business health, physical health, mental, and emotional health training. The Women’s Resource Center will partner with other organizations and coalitions to present topics of interest to consumers and address needs for personal and family development (examples: how to get out of debt, family conflict, how to run your business, securing federal funding for home office and business, how to choose a partner, parenting by choice, living with cancer, etc.). One seminar will be held at the local public library each month, and one at a selected outreach site.
Community Link builds on existing and new partnerships to strengthen consumer access. Groups join in partnership to plan and implement activities that recruit advocates to help themselves and others (like churches, community centers, outreach centers, Girl Scouts, etc.). This activity provides outreach distribution of joint information on topics to strengthen organizational and community efforts (like community fairs, corner postings, coordination of leaders and parish nurses, shop owners, etc.).
The mentoring relationship has received ongoing success through out the professional research. The findings demonstrate positive results in the academic, on the job success, and in the health arena. Our initial program trained 172 mentors impacting 586 individuals helping them achieve career information, family and personal health care services. Seventy eight percent of those assisted by mentors were able to rate their goals as satisfied: diabetes status positively decreased, increased visits to their physician, receiving medical supplies, securing housing, grades increased, care giving skills increase, secured career position, credit picture improved, etc.
